    Industrial strength relief from intense glare, UV and solar heat. Shades are constructed of five gauge multi-ply mylar and will not pit. Industrial Strength Shade material is stronger than steel and virtually tear proof. Industrial Strength shades are made of a scratch resistant material. Looking through the shade, colors remain TRUE insuring that Visual Light Signals are easily recognized. Red, Yellow and Green Signal Markers are never distorted, even at a great distance. Industrial Strength Shades provide daytime privacy only.

    North Solar Screen takes cords and child safety seriously. Our shades are available cordless (recommended where young children are present.) All chain shades have cord safety tensioners to reduce the hazards of cord strangulation or entanglement or they can be motorized.

    Specialty Industrial Strength Shades

    For Tilted Windows (Either tilted inward, like a windshield, or outward, like an air traffic control tower)

    • We recommend sending photos and calling for assistance with boat and crane shades.
    • Can be angle cut on one or both sides (If the angles are at the same degree).
    • If windows are wider at the bottom than the top the shade must be mounted on the bottom of the window frame.
    • Order with a constant spring tension system to keep the shade parallel to the glass for better visibility and to keep the shade from rubbing the glass.
    • Order with either Notched Tracks, cord lock, or Self Leveling Double Pulley Bottom Bars
      • Notched Tracks for rectangular shaped windows only. Operates with a handle.
      • Pulley locks – for relatively small windows, shades can have angle cut sides. Cords secure the shade from the center of the bottom bar.
      • Self Leveling Double Pulley Bottom Bars – shades can have angle cut sides. Cords secure the shade on the sides of the window rather than center for less shade movement and less distracting cords.

    Hiding the Roller

    Reverse Roll
    Shade material runs over the front of roller instead of the back. This hides the shade roller but also causes the material to be further away from the window. Also, this does not hide the clutch chain mechanism at the top.

    The RollEase continuous clutch/chain control lifts evenly, locks automatically and raises and lowers in one control. The P Shaped tension device or Cord Guide reduces the hazards of child strangulation and entanglement by limiting their access to the cord control.

    Rollease Clutches come in white or black. Black is used for exterior shades. Chain colors are available in white, light gray, bronze, black and steel. Standard color chains for exterior shades are black or bronze. There is an extra charge for steel chains.

    Somfy 12V Battery Operated motor with reloadable Battery wand. Operates with handheld or wall mounted single or multi channel remotes. Transformers available to save on batteries, as well as timers for the ultimate in convenience.

    • Powered by a Battery Wand that uses 8 Lithium Batteries. (Batteries are not rechargeable)
    • Multi channel remotes can operate up to 100 shades. The last button opens and closes all simultaneously.

    110V Plug In Motor With Radio Remote

    Motor plugs into Standard 110V Outlet, shipped with 6 feet of wire and a plug, special order longer wire.
    (Do not shorten power cables to less than 42″ because the antenna is in the cable and the motor will not work if the antenna is cut.)

    Motor is inside shade roller, on right or left your choice, only power cord sticks out.
    Each shade is controlled by a hand held remote or wireless wall switch.
    Control single or multiple shades by pressing a button, shade can be set to stop at a mid point or run to the limit stops

    Motors use about 1.5 amps, remote range 100 ft.
    To hardwire to a junction box install a shut off switch for each motor so you can disconnect each motor from power source to program.

    Q: How much narrower is the Film shade material cut than the tip of the roller?

    • Spring Tension: 1/2" on spring end, 1/2” on pin end
    • Clutch/Chain Operated: 3/4" on clutch side and 1/2" on pin end
    • Battery Motors: 3/4" on motor side and 1/2" on pin end
    • Somfy 110V Radio Motors: 1 1/8" on motor side and 1 1/8" on pressure pin end

    Q: How much DEPTH do I need to install roller shades?
    These are guidelines only—shades made with heavier materials, or exceptionally tall shades, may require more space. Depth is measured from the shallowest point. On double hung windows, use the shallowest section of the window frame. Take into consideration things such as window cranks

    Clutch Operated

        • Shade Width up to 78" = 2 3/8" of depth for inside frame, outside frame mount or ceiling mount.
        • Shade Width from 78-110" = 2 7/8" of depth or inside frame, outside frame mount, 3 1/4" for ceiling mount.
        • Shade Width 110" or larger = 3 3/8" (R16 clutch) OR 3 7/8" (R24 clutch) of depth for inside frame, outside frame mount, ceiling mount 3 7/8"-4" depending upon fabric.

    Spring Spring Tension

        • Shade Width up to 79" = 1 5/8" of depth
        • Shade Width from 79-120" = 1 7/8" of depth

    Q: What are the dimensions of your shade brackets?
    Q: My spring tension film shade won’t go up anymore. How do I correct this?
    Leaving the shade in the brackets, pull it down as far as it can go. Then remove it from the brackets and roll it up by hand, being very careful not to let the material of the shade “telescope” off the end of the roller (this could cause it to fray or be otherwise damaged.) Put it back in the brackets and see if it’s functioning properly. If it’s still weak, follow the same procedure again. You may want to pull it down less than all the way after the first attempt to correct the problem so you don’t wind the spring up too tight.
    Q: My shade won’t go all the way up, or all the way down.
    How do I fix this?
    This is caused by the metal chain stopper being in the wrong place and usually happens when the shade is installed wrong.

    Here are the "rules of thumb" about chain stoppers:

    • Regular roll shades: metal stopper bead is at the top, touching the clutch on the window side, when the shade is all the way up.
    • Reverse roll shades: metal stopper bead is at the top, touching the clutch on the room side, when the shade is all the way up.

    Here is how to fix common stopper bead problems:

    • If you have a Regular roll shade (the material goes down the back of the roller and is near the glass), then when the shade is all the way up, the metal stopper bead should be at the top, touching the clutch, and on the side of the clutch nearest the glass. If this is so, but your shade isn't all the way up, here’s how to correct it:
      - If the shade is small and easy to handle, the easiest way is to roll the shade up as far as it will go. Remove the shade from the brackets. Slip the clutch out of the roller. Manually roll the shade until it is all the way up. Put the clutch back into the roller.
      - If the shade is large and you don’t have help, you can correct it while it’s still in the brackets. Take hold of the bottom of the shade by the weighted bar, and physically lift the shade material up and over the front of the roller. By doing this you are manually rolling up the shade. Repeat until the shade is all the way up. It should operate correctly now.
    • If you have a Reverse roll shade (the material goes down the front of the roller and is further from the glass), then when the shade is all the way up, the metal stopper bead should be at the top, touching the clutch, and on the side further from the glass. If this is so, but your shade isn't all the way up, here’s how to correct it:
      - If the shade is small and easy to handle, the easiest way is to roll the shade up as far as it will go. Remove the shade from the brackets. Slip the clutch out of the roller. Manually roll the shade until it is all the way up. Put the clutch back into the roller.
      - If the shade is large and you don’t have help, you can correct it while it’s still in the brackets. Take hold of the bottom of the shade by the weighted bar, and physically lift the shade material up and behind the roller. By doing this you are manually rolling up the shade. Repeat until the shade is all the way up. It should operate correctly now.

    Q: The material on my shade is rolling up crooked.
    What causes this and how do I fix it?
    This is usually caused by the installation not being level; the shade will roll towards the higher side. It must be corrected immediately or the shade material, telescoping over the end, will rub the shade brackets and get damaged.

    • Best solution is to remount the brackets so the shade will be level.
    • Another solution is to lower the shade until the roller is exposed. On the side opposite the incorrect roll place a 3 inch length of 1 1/2" masking tape on the long edge of the shade material, or on the roller edge. This will balance (level) the roller. Additional layers of tape may be required until the shade rolls up evenly.
    • Operate the shade slowly to be sure the roll is correct; stop at once if the material runs to one side.
